BMT Track
The BMT track is a dedicated year of training in bone marrow transplantation, cellular therapy and malignant hematology during the 3rd year of hematology/oncology fellowship. Fellows are able to apply in their second year of fellowship and one fellow is selected to complete the track in their third year of training. The fellow is required to complete all required components as a hematology/oncology fellow. In addition, the BMT fellow selects 4 BMT faculty members to rotate with, each for 3 months. Note the BMT Track is not ACGME accredited. Fellows who complete the track receive a certificate of completion.
Outpatient Training:
The fellow works one on one with their assigned quarterly mentor in the mentor's clinic located in the Moores Cancer Center (MCC). Fellows take a lead role in seeing new patients, following up established patients, making treatment decisions, and preparing chemotherapy and transplant order sets under the guidance of the faculty mentor.
Inpatient training:
The fellow joins rounds while the assigned faculty mentor is on BMT inpatient service located in the Jacobs Medical Center (JMC). The fellow assumes the role of a junior attending on rounds, leading a team of APPs, hematology/oncology fellows, pharmacists, residents, and medical students with supervision of their faculty mentor. The inpatient service is a week long each, approximately one week per month.
