The clinical resources at the University of California, San Diego, offer a broad experience and the opportunity to participate in clinical care for a diverse patient population. Each clinical site has rotating housestaff teams as well as subspecialty fellows in training.

Thornton Hospital, La JollaThe Thornton Hospital is a 119-bed facility adjacent to the The Bone Marrow Transplantation Service performs approximately 120 autologous and allogeneic transplantations per year and is one of the largest programs in California. The Hematology-Oncology Service consults on inpatients hospitalized for treatment or complications of cancer and blood diseases. |

UCSD Hospital at Hillcrest, San DiegoThe UCSD Medical Center at Hillcrest is a 403-bed facility that The Hillcrest Medical Center also serves as a tertiary referral center providing a multitude of specialized services. The Hematology Consult Service at Hillcrest receives from ten to fifteen requests each week, of which approximatley 60% are Hematology requests. Outpatient Services at the Medical Offices South (formerly the Ambulatory Care Center) conducts a clinic for adult patients who have hemophilia. |

VA San Diego Healthcare System, La JollaThe VA San Diego Healthcare System is a 400-bed hospital providing general as well as specialized medical and surgical care for a growing population of veterans. The Hematology-Oncology Division operates a full inpatient consult service with a patient mix of two-thirds oncology patients and one-third benign hematology patients. There is also a busy infusion center to provide chemotherapy or the transfusion of blood or blood products to our patients. At VA San Diego Healthcare, we have three outpatient clinics scheduled each week to serve patients with problems ranging from simple anemias to bleeding or clotting disorders and advanced malignancies of all types. |

Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer CenterThe Moores UCSD Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region. Physicians and scientists work together in breakthrough research at the Cancer Center to advance every aspect of cancer care, from prevention and education through diangosis and treatment. The Medical Oncology Specialty Clinic at the Cancer Center has clinics scheduled to cover the full range of cancers. On-site are an infusion center and other resources needed for the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic disorders. |
